Message Sujet: The Science Behind Healing With Sound   Jeu 16 Nov - 12:33

The Science Behind Healing With Sound

The Therapeutic Effect of Music

In the realm of healing techniques, sound work inhabits a curious space. It has been used for thousands of years—think of overtone chanting from Central Asia, for example—yet, it’s also on the frontiers of modern neuroscience.

Joshua Leeds, the author of The Power of Sound and an expert in the field of psychoacoustics, the study of the effects of sound on the human nervous system, explains how sound works by:

"…creating a frequency and vibration for someone that’s conducive for him or her to heal. Sound healing is trending up. It’s like where yoga was 15 years ago. People are realizing that sound is a viable medium to address distress, enhance learning, even work with an autistic child."

Sound like overtone chanting has been used for thousands of years for healing

Brain-wave Entrainment

Much of the current work is based on the early 70s research of biophysicist Gerald Oster. Oster showed that when a tone is played in one ear and a slightly different tone is played in the other ear, the difference causes the brain to create a third, internal tone, called a binaural beat. The theory is that this syncs the brain waves in both hemispheres, a process dubbed “brain-wave entrainment”.

Carol Moore, marketing director of Monroe Products, which makes Hemi-Sync verbal meditations and music that contain embedded binaural beats, says:

"When the brain is in synchronicity, there’s more focus.
Our sleep titles help drop you into the deep delta waves. Electrical activity in the brain gets slowed down."

Brain-wave entrainment is when sound syncs the brain waves in both hemispheres.

Recovery from Serious Illness

Some of the products are designed to help people recover from a stroke or surgery, deal with chronic pain, or become more relaxed while undergoing chemotherapy.

"You might envision the drugs as a love potion, rather than poison."

She describes it as creating a state where you can say, ‘This is coming into my body to heal me, not to do damage to me’.

Sound can be used to help people recover from serious medical conditions.

The Synchronicity of Sound

Brain-wave entrainment isn’t without its skeptics, but some research supports it. In 2008, the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published a review of 20 studies of brain-wave entrainment and patient outcomes. The conclusion was that brain-wave entrainment is an effective tool to use on cognitive functioning deficits, stress, pain, headaches, and premenstrual syndrome.

The studies also suggest that sound work can help with behavioral problems. Bill Harris, who created Holosync products, says:

"Different brain-wave patterns affect emotions."

Research suggests that sound can help people cope better with emotions.

Raising the Vibration

His system uses sounds like rain and crystal bowls—there’s no beat or melody—with a pulsing tone underneath. He also uses custom affirmations, which people record in their own voices.

"You’re practicing going into a brain-wave pattern. It causes the brain to organize at a more complex level. It takes what you can handle emotionally and intellectually and pushes it higher. I’m not claiming this cures cancer. But it does have a profound effect on people’s physical health. A lot of people come to us for chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, things that are exacerbated by stress."

Sound has a healing vibration that can work on all parts of the body.

Music for Healing

Sound can increase immunity and treat insomnia, according to Jamie Bechtold, a Los Angeles-based sound healer. She says that:

Most people come to me for stress and anxiety.

For woes like pulled muscles, colds, and headaches, Bechtold uses tuning forks on acupuncture points, and also combines gong performances with yoga classes.

"I’ve seen back muscles that are spasming completely relax using this vibration. Recorded music is fine, but with live music you can feel it. The floor is vibrating. The sound waves are bouncing all over the place."

Music has been shown to improve a variety of ailments.

Elevating with Frequencies

Jeffrey Thompson, founder of the Center for Neuroacoustic Research, says different frequencies target the various densities in the body. He uses a vibroacoustic sound therapy table.

"As the frequencies slow down, from 500 to 400 hertz (a hertz is one cycle per second), you feel it more in your muscles, then your joints, then in your bones. We can give a vibrational massage, down all the way to your cells. I can do cranial work with sound, work on organs. You’re finding frequencies to elevate the body’s cells to a super-healing state, rebuilding more tissue."

According to Leeds, the future of sound will be frequency medicine:

There’s more on sound science than ever before. We know what is happening molecularly. What we think of as sound healing will be called frequency medicine.

Message Sujet: These Diseases Are All Caused by Microwave Ovens...   Dim 19 Nov - 17:11

These Diseases Are All Caused by Microwave Ovens...

Did you know that over 90% of American homes regularly use microwave ovens for meal preparation?

Microwave ovens pulse electromagnetic waves through food, exciting the molecules and causing them to move, vibrate and heat up as they respond to the microwave radiation.

It is a device called a Magnetron in the microwave oven that produces wave energy. This wave energy converts polarity of molecules from positive to negative. This polarity changes millions of times every second in the microwave oven. Microwaves bombard the food molecules and makes the polarized molecules to radiate at the same frequency millions of times every second. This heats the food but at the same time  causes ‘structural isomerism’ - structural damage of the food molecules.

A Swiss study led by biologist and food scientist Dr. Hans Hertel identified the effects of microwaved food. For eight weeks, eight people lived in a controlled environment and intermittently ate raw foods, conventionally cooked foods and microwaved foods. Blood samples were tested after each meal. The microwaved food caused significant changes in blood chemistry.

The Dangers of Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF)

Have you ever wondered why food is often unevenly heated when you remove it from the microwave?

This happens because microwaves work with whatever water molecules are present, and since not all areas of food contain the same amount of water, heating becomes uneven.

A study conducted at Stanford University investigated the effects of microwaving breast milk. One of the scientists stated “Microwaving human milk, even at a low setting, can destroy some of its important disease-fighting capabilities.” They claimed that besides heating, there were many other disturbing alterations in the milk

In early 1991, a lawsuit was filed against an Oklahoma hospital after a patient died from receiving blood that was heated in a microwave oven.

In 1976, Russia banned microwaves because of their negative effect on health and wellbeing.

Eating food processed from a microwave oven causes permanent brain damage by “shorting out” electrical impulses in the brain.

The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit. Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths (tumors). This may explain the rapid increased rate of colon cancer in America.

Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and serum alterations.

Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence. Microwaving milk and cereal grains converted some of their amino acids into carcinogens.

Thawing frozen fruits converted their glucoside and galactoside containing fractions into carcinogenic substances. Extremely short exposure of raw, cooked or frozen vegetables converted their plant alkaloids into carcinogens.

In summary, its becoming more apparent that microwaves and microwave cause cancer and other malicious diseases. They have the power to destroy the goodness in our food and weaken our bodies.

We should all be thinking about permanently getting rid of them.

Message Sujet: Procrastination   Sam 2 Déc - 16:50

Procrastination

Procrastination
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. Sometimes, procrastination takes place until the "last minute" before a deadline. Procrastination can take hold on any aspect of life—putting off cleaning the stove, repairing a leaky roof, seeing a doctor or dentist, submitting a job report or academic assignment or broaching a stressful issue with a partner. Procrastination can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, depression, and self-doubt.

Negative impact
For some people, procrastination can be persistent and tremendously disruptive to everyday life. For these individuals, procrastination may be symptomatic of a psychological disorder. Procrastination has been linked to a number of negative associations, such as depression, irrational behavior, low self-esteem, anxiety and neurological disorders such as ADHD. Others have found relationships with guilt and stress. Therefore, it is important for people whose procrastination has become chronic and is perceived to be debilitating to seek out a trained therapist or psychiatrist to see if an underlying mental health issue may be present.
With a distant deadline, procrastinators report significantly less stress and physical illness than do non-procrastinators. However, as the deadline approaches, this relationship is reversed. Procrastinators report more stress, more symptoms of physical illness, and more medical visits, to the extent that, overall, procrastinators suffer more stress and health problems.

Message Sujet: LIMINAL VILLAGE 2018: ACTIVISM AS THE MAIN THEME OF BOOM   Jeu 25 Jan - 13:26

LIMINAL VILLAGE 2018
ACTIVISM AS THE MAIN THEME OF BOOM

LIMINAL VILLAGE 2016

LIMINAL VILLAGE 2016

LIMINAL VILLAGE: WORKSHOPS, LECTURES, NGO, ECO, KIDS

Dear Boomers,

As Boom’s cultural hub, the Liminal Village is a space where knowledge can truly be shared as a means of achieving positive change. Every edition since 2000, inspiring speakers partake in a series of panels, conferences and workshops, and dozens of hours are dedicated to movie sessions.

HOLISTIC ACTIVISM: A KALEIDOSCOPE OF HOPE IN SUPPORT OF LIFE AND FREEDOM

The whole planet is going through intense transformational time, giving rise to many kinds of challenges for all of us and thus posing the question on what should be our reaction. Radical self-responsibility is key to activate our potential as game changers and even when we are surrounded with natural disasters, political turmoil, social unrest, we can choose to focus on what can be done and refuse to be overwhelmed by hopelessness.

When we choose hope and action, we are able to see that there are myriads of associations, collectives, initiatives, individuals, actively working at the solutions, and if we decide to surf their wave, guided by the impulse of life to perpetuate itself, the system of destruction has no chance!

As in a kaleidoscopic vision, where each colour is in perfect geometric relation to the others and together they form a harmonious ever-changing picture, we can discern how different streams of activism have been forming over the years. Scenes that have previously been separated now are looking for each other’s knowledge to collaborate and find the right balance.

As Standing Rock has proved, there is no effective political and ecological activism without the support of prayer in defense of the sacredness of what keep us alive: this is sacred activism. Furthermore there is no effective activism towards external authority structures, without a previous work on one’s own inner structures. Awareness of one’s inner dynamics and inner wars, is key to avoid projections: this is inner activism. Spiritual work and self-development work without political awareness are destined to create islands of supposed purity and remain inefficient at a global level, while political activism without a spiritual basis risks to become sterile and activists can succumb to burnout.

How do the different souls of this global movement intertwine, support each other and make an effective impact at a global level? Which is the knowledge each stream can contribute to form a holistic picture? How can the Boom experience trigger engagement in social/political/ecological/technological activism, while supporting inner development?

SPIRITUAL ACTIVISM: reconnection to traditional and indigenous knowledge, knowledge of spiritual/mystical traditions, neo-shamanism, sacred geometry, witchcraft tools, plant medicine ceremonies, vipassana, sweat lodge, vision quest, soulcraft, temple arts, sacred music…

INNER ACTIVISM: integration of psychedelic experiences, self-development tools, Non Violent Communication, deep/Jungian/transpersonal psychology, couple therapy, understanding the self and the other, emotions and feelings in the making of culture, meditation, mindfulness...

ECOLOGICAL ACTIVISM: defense of the four elements, balance between the opposites (fire vs. water), conscious water management, anti-fracking campaigns, permaculture, biodynamics, bio agriculture, guerrilla gardens and guerilla forests, reforestation, clean energy cooperatives, off-the-grid energy solutions, awareness of “greenwashing”, food sovereignty, conscious nutrition, animal welfare vs. animal cruelty…

POLITICAL ACTIVISM: anti-capitalistic alternatives vs. post capitalism vs. other systems, gift economy, circular economy, sustainable degrowth, transition towns, redistribution of wealth, anti-nuclear campaigns, cognitive liberty campaigns, liberalization of psychedelics and its medical/scientific potential, independent media…

SOCIAL ACTIVISM: sustainable social change, defense of minority rights, gender justice, LGBTQ rights, equality and integration vs. racism, conscious travelling vs. mass tourism, ageing population vs. welfare systems vs. guaranteed minimum income (GMI), integration policies, anti-nationalist/racists strategies, urbanization of lifestyles vs. rural escapism, community-supported agriculture, community building, sustainable cities, positive social media, free education…

TECHNOLOGICAL ACTIVISM: “fight for your digital rights” campaigns, right to digital privacy, noble hacking, cryptocurrencies, Fab Labs, DIY, defense of net neutrality, ethics and robotics, learning to code, cyber shamanism, challenges of AI, deep neuro-networks, deep learning, new internet vs. commercialization of net sharing values vs. open source culture digital detox, electronic music as spiritual technology with social power…

ART-IVISM: How art and creativity can serve activist campaigns, how music can be a weapon of peace.

If you feel the call don’t hesitate to write your proposal for a presentation, workshop, documentary or performance for the 2018 Liminal Village program by filling the application form HERE. You have time till 28 February 2018 23:59 GMT.

The full program will be announced in May, so make sure to stay tuned!

We as a community of Boomers are part of the solutions we have been waiting for!

With Love and Gratitude,
The Boom Team

Message Sujet: Re: Let's talk about everything...   Ven 26 Jan - 20:06

WHERE IS THE GARDEN OF EDEN?

The Garden of Eden is a central theme in the Old Testament: a gorgeous utopia where everything is beautiful and perfect, untouched by the sins of man. It all sounds too perfect, doesn’t it?
This concept of an idyllic, pristine paradise isn’t exclusive to Christianity. The Sumerians called it “Dilmun,” while the Greeks referred to it as the “Garden of the Hesperides.”
There are more than just a few details about the garden that overlap between cultures, which leaves room for speculation and exploration. Is this paradise a mere myth, or did it actually exist? If it did exist, where was it located?

THE SEARCH FOR THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Scientists, philosophers, and laypeople have spent centuries searching for the elusive Garden of Eden location. While we still don’t know exactly where it was — or if it even existed — it offers interesting theories to explore.
In Genesis 2:8-14, the garden is described as being near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Based on this information, we can safely assume the Garden of Eden was located somewhere in the Middle East — specifically in an area known as the Fertile Crescent, which included Mesopotamia.
Because the Bible describes the garden as bountiful, its correlation to the Fertile Crescent makes sense. This region was very uncharacteristic of the surrounding desert, with moist soil and abundant water. It eventually became an epicenter for agriculture.
However, this same Bible verse mentions two other mysterious rivers: the Pison and the Gihon. These rivers may or may not exist today, and scholars have struggledthroughout the ages to determine their locations.
Many Ethiopians believe the Gihon is the modern-day Blue Nile, one of the major tributaries of the Nile, although this has never been proven. Similarly, the location of the Pison (also stylized as the “Pishon”) remains unknown, though some believe it to be the modern-day Ganges, and others believe it to be the Nile.

OTHER STORIES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

In addition to Christians, there are other groups of people who have their own stories of a similarly idyllic paradise.

EASTERN TRADITIONS

Shambhala is a utopian kingdom that is a focal point of the Tibetan Hindu and Buddhist movements. It’s a place where people coexisted together in harmony and enlightenment.
Unlike the Garden of Eden, Shambhala seems to be centered moreso around an idea rather than a physical place. In Eastern religions, the core concepts of Shambhala — harmony, enlightenment, and wisdom — can be achieved virtually anywhere, at any time, through mindfulness and meditation.

SUMERIANS

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the utopian garden is referred to as the “garden of the gods” and is located near the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. The epic describes a “plant of life,” which parallels the Tree of Life in the book of Genesis and allegedly provides eternal life.
When Gilgamesh learns of the plant’s power to provide everlasting youth, he attempts to take it. However, a serpent thwarts his efforts and steals the plant from Gilgamesh while he is camping. It is then that Gilgamesh understands his mortality and accepts that he cannot live forever.

GREEKS

Ancient Greek folklore refers to the garden as the “Garden of the Hesperides.”Similar to the Biblical tale, this garden is associated with a fruit-bearing tree and a serpent.
According to Greek mythology, the Garden of Hesperides is located “at the northern edge of the world.” Its name comes from the nymphs who resided there (the Hesperides), who were daughters of a god called Atlas. The Hesperides, along with a serpent named Ladon, guarded the tree and its forbidden fruit, which belonged to Zeus.

GARDEN OF EDEN: FACT OR FICTION?

There are some clear parallels between these legends and those that appear in the Bible. Is this merely a coincidence? Or, is it possible such a utopian place existed? While the mystery of the Garden of Eden prevails, so too does the quest for truth.

Message Sujet: WHERE DID HUMANS ORIGINATE?   Ven 26 Jan - 20:24

WHERE DID HUMANS ORIGINATE?

Theories abound as to how humans came to be on this planet.

Evolutionists make a sound argument, stating that we evolved from primates over an extensive time period. Creationists believe we were created in our present form by a higher power.

While evolution and creationism are arguably the two most widespread theories of how human beings were created, there are several other theories to explore as well.

Are humans from another planet? Did extraterrestrials create us? Explore the following theories on the origin of humans to come to your own conclusion.

HUMANS ARE NOT FROM EARTH

When compared to other species, human beings are extremely advanced and anomalous. From our communication abilities to our advanced intelligence, it’s safe to say we’re truly one of a kind.

There is much evidence to suggest humans are not suited for Earth’s environment. Dr. Ellis Silver explored this notion in-depth in his book Humans are not from Earth: a scientific evaluation of the evidence. Some of the most compelling evidence from Dr. Silver’s work includes:

Sunburn - If we were meant to live on Earth, then why are we so sensitive to the sun’s rays?

Back problems - Dr. Silver believes the reason back problems are so widespread is because we’re designed to live in a lower-gravity environment.

Disease - Our immune systems are surprisingly weak and seem ill-suited for the planet.

Childbirth - Humans experience extraordinary difficulty and pain when giving birth.

PANSPERMIA

Panspermia, which translates to “seeds everywhere,” is a theory that life on Earth originated from microorganisms transported from space.

Proponents of this theory cite a time period in which the Earth endured a series of meteor showers, about 4 billion years ago. During this time, bacteria and other organisms were potentially transported from other celestial bodies to our planet.

This actually makes a lot of sense. There are plenty of bacteria and microbes found on Earth that can withstand extreme temperatures, similar to those found in outer space. Considering such evidence, it’s quite possible these organisms did indeed come from elsewhere to help shape our planet into what it is today.

ALIENS CREATED US

Zecharia Sitchin was a Russian-American author best known for his book, The 12th Planet. In this book, he argues that extraterrestrials, known as the Annunaki, genetically engineered humans to work as slaves to mine for gold.

According to Sitchin, the Annunaki came from a distant planet called Nibiru. Unlike the other planets in our solar system, Nibiru features an elongated oval orbit, allowing it to enter our solar system every 3,600 or so years. He estimates the Annunaki arrived on Earth about 450,000 years ago during such a phenomenon.

ALIENS HELPED SHAPE US INTO WHO WE ARE TODAY

Erich van Däniken authored the acclaimed book “Chariots of the Gods,”, which explores the idea that extraterrestrials are responsible for establishing many ancient civilizations on Earth.

He cites such examples as the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge as evidence of extraterrestrial influence on Earth, as well as ancient artifacts that resemble aliens, spacecraft, and astronauts. Humans at the time viewed these extraterrestrials as divine beings or gods, as cited in religious texts such as the Bible.

DID HUMANS COME FROM ANOTHER PLANET?

From evolution to panspermia, there are many theories about the origins of mankind. Gregg Braden dives deep into this mystery in the Missing Links series, in which he argues we arrived on Earth thousands of years ago and have not changed since.

While there is much evidence to suggest we may have come from another planet, it’s best to keep an open mind and continue to explore this topic to form your own hypothesis.

Message Sujet: PRE-ADAMITE CIVILIZATION: DID HUMANS INHABIT EARTH BEFORE ADAM AND EVE?   Ven 26 Jan - 20:41

PRE-ADAMITE CIVILIZATION: DID HUMANS INHABIT EARTH BEFORE ADAM AND EVE?

The timeline of human existence has captured the attention of philosophers, scientists, and ordinary, curious people throughout the ages. Of course, there is the famous tale of Adam and Eve, but were they truly the first humans to walk the Earth? There is a growing body of research that suggests modern humans were not the first intelligent beings to live on our planet.[/size]

IS IT POSSIBLE PRE-ADAMITES EXISTED?

There are groups from all belief systems — Christians, conspiracy theorists, alien researchers, evolutionists, and more — who believe pre-Adamites (humans or intelligent beings that walked the Earth before Adam) actually existed.

The idea of the possibility of a pre-Adamite civilization and discussion about the origin of the human race is not a new one. Debates on the topic have been taking place since 170 AD. Over the years, many theories swirled about, enticing logical and romantic thinkers alike to explore further, look deeper, and question what they had been taught.

THE CHRISTIAN DEBATE

A growing number of Christians and people of other faiths believe modern-day humans were not the first — and possibly are not the last.

The Bible has clear passages about events that have taken place and that will take place at some point in the future, stating human existence operates on a 7,000-year cycle. Based on scripture now, the Earth is only a little over 6,000 years old. However, a great deal of scientific evidence indicates it is much, much older.

The Bible does not specifically state Adam was the first man ever to walk the Earth. There are too many gaps in the information contained in that chapter to get a clear picture.

Consider the account of Noah and the Great Flood. All humans were wiped out, except for Noah and his family. It’s quite possible a new Adam and Eve were born out of this catastrophe, starting the cycle anew. Therefore, it’s not entirely irrational to have doubts over whether or not Adam and Eve were truly the first humans on Earth.

In the book of Genesis, we read the Earth was without form and void — as if it had experienced a great catastrophe. We know from scripture that water already covered the Earth, and scientists are now finding, under the great bodies of water of the world, evidence of entire civilizations. These findings raise more questions than answers. How do we mesh science with scripture? Is it possible?

Many events documented in the biblical texts seem to be supported by science. Can these two seemingly oppositional systems coexist and come together to give us a more complete picture of where we came from?

Consider that the original biblical texts have been translated repeatedly. The version we use today has only been around since the 1600s, and the Catholic church uses a heavy hand in changing the scripture and the structure of the book itself. If you stop and think about it, perhaps we’ve lost something in all the edits and translations. Maybe we don’t have the whole story.

Keep in mind, there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

THE SCIENTIFIC DEBATE

Traditionally, science and religion are diametrically opposed, with religion calling for faith and science calling for fact. However, scientific findings in recent years seem to be closing that gap.

Scientists present evidence that dinosaurs once roamed the Earth. Christians open their Bibles to the book of Job to read about what appears to be dinosaurs coexisting with humans. More recently found civilizations and objects defy all scientific and biblical teaching.

Throughout the world, ancient cities are being discovered; not on mountaintops or in forests, but under the ocean. These include:

- Port Royal, Jamaica

- Lion City of Quiandao Lake, China

- Nero’s sunken city

- Cleopatra’s Palace in Alexandria, Egypt, and Thonis-Heracleion in Egypt

- Sunken city of Cuba

- Dwarka, India

- Yonaguni Monument, Japan

What are these ancient underwater cities? Are they evidence of a pre-Adamite civilization? Many of them have elaborate structures and display a level of technology scientists say was not possible at the time they would have been in use. Could carbon dating and other methods scientists use to date materials really be that far off? That’s not just a decade or two but a multi-billion-year error. Scientists believe they have definitive evidence, or are at least very close, to support their timelines.

Some scientists believe they have found evidence of the inhabitants of some of these civilizations. A flash frozen civilization in Antarctica is of particular interest. The skeletons looked vaguely human except for the elongated skulls. Who were they? What were they? Scientists speculate an ancient race that has long since died out.

Conspiracy theorists, on the other hand, believe they are an alien race that came here to escape their dying planet. They set up their civilizations and “seeded” the Earth. That is what we humans are.

Everyone has a story, a theory of what they believe took place. The truth is, there are some very strange things on this planet that cannot be explained by our current understanding of history, science, technology, and culture. What do we do? We press on. We continue to explore. We keep our minds open and keep searching for the truth.

Regardless of our belief systems, nothing can be learned by blindly walking through life ignoring what does not fit in the history books. Skeptics must acknowledge these ancient civilizations are real, and they were left here for a reason. Why weren’t they destroyed? Is this part of an elaborate puzzle, a higher test to separate the wheat from the chaff?

As for the scientists, are they doing all they can? Is science truly utilizing all available resources to explore these civilizations and search for clues that would change the way we view society and the world? The fact that these structures and entire cities were left behind and buried, only for us to find them so many years later, suggests intent.

When you are deciding what to believe, the greatest tool that can be sharpened and utilized is your critical thinking.

Message Sujet: WHO WAS THE SUMERIAN GOD ENKI?   Ven 26 Jan - 20:55

WHO WAS THE SUMERIAN GOD ENKI?

The Sumerians were noted for their worship of many gods. Among them was Enki, a god known for being the patron deity of the city of Eridu.

Enki is depicted in many pieces of Sumerian art and literature, including the Babylonian creation epic the Enuma Elish, The Epic of Gilgamesh, and others. Due to his prominence in such works, it is fair to assume he played a large role in Sumerian culture. Much about Enki remains shrouded in mystery, and begs further exploration.

THE GOD ENKI

Enki, a god known for his inherent worth, represented healing, fertility, and creation in Sumerian culture. His intelligent magic often included trickery to benefit the good of the human race.

Son of a sky god, Enki was thought to reign over the Earth and high heavens. As a leader of the Anunna gods in Sumeria, it is believed Enki inhabited the Earth nearly 400,000 years ago.

ENKI’S VARIOUS NAMES

Enki was known by a variety of names, including Enkig, Ea, Nissiku, and Nudimmud. The names come with a variety of translations, such as “Prince,” “Lord of the Earth,” and “Creator.”

GIFT OF FERTILITY & CREATION

In Sumerian culture, Enki is heavily connected to the concepts of fertility and creation. This is often represented by water.

Ancient images of Enki show rivers flowing from his masculine shoulders. The rivers depicted are thought to be the Euphrates and Tigris rivers that flow through Mesopotamia and signify his gift of fertility to the land. According to legend, the rivers were formed from his semen, which further supports his ties to the concept of fertility.

In addition, other symbols associated with Enki are the goat and the fish, which also signify fertility or fertileness.

One Sumerian lore depicts Enki as the founder of Eridu, possibly Mesopotamia’s first city, thus establishing the beginning of life on Earth. The spiritual site of Eridu has been compared to the Judeo-Christian concept of the Garden of Eden.

In addition to his contributions to creation, Enki is noted for his divine crafts and arts that represent spirituality. It is said he came to Earth to share knowledge of the afterlife with humans.

LINK TO THE ANNUNAKI

The Anunna or Anunnaki were beings of higher consciousness and advanced technology. According to legend, these gods or extraterrestrials came to Earth in search of gold. In one Babylonian story, the elder gods enjoy a leisurely life while the younger gods worked away mining gold.

The intelligent yet mischievous Enki suggested the gods create other beings to mine the gold for them. The Annunaki were thought to be clone masters who sought to clone lesser beings, such as the human race, to do their work. Control of human beings is still thought to be happening under Annunaki gods today.

Although Enki contributed to the concept of cloning, which could be considered manipulation of the human race, he was well-intended and provided humans with information on how to restore balance to the Earth after devastating droughts and famine. Enki was drawn to forgiveness, compassion, and humanity.

ENKI FAMILY LINEAGE

Enki had a substantial cosmic family line. His immediate family included a father figure, mother, brother, wife, and four sons. An additional eight children were born later, as mentioned in a folk tale. The names and relations of Enki’s family members vary throughout ancient texts.

Sumerian mythology referred to Enki’s father as Anu, meaning “sky god,” while Babylonian text uses the name Apsu, defined as “primordial father.” Enki’s mother, Nammu, was a goddess from the highest heavens. She was depicted as the female force who gave birth to the heavens and the Earth.

Enki was the twin of Adad, a god of weather and storms. Enki had another brother Enlin, who was thought to be an adversary, often causing trouble for Enki to creatively repair.

Enki later married the goddess Ninhursag, who is also known by the names Ninmah, Damgalnuna, and Damkina. Together they had four sons: Asarluhi, god of magical knowledge; Enbhlulu, god of dikes and canals; Adapa, human sage; and Marduk, god of magical knowledge.

In the tale Enki and Ninhursag, it is said Enki and his wife had eight more children in an effort to cure Enki after he became seriously ill. The eight offspring with healing powers included:

- Abu - god of plants and growth

- Nintulla - god of precious metals

- Ninsitu - goddess of healing

- Ninkasi - goddess of beer

- Nanshe - goddess of divination, dream interpretation, social justice, and fertility

- Azimua - goddess of healing

- Emshag - god of fertility

- Ninti - goddess and giver of life

POWER AND HUMANITY

Enki was a very powerful god and had the assistance of mystical beings at his service. Legends describe an assortment of creatures such as mermaids, giants, and even demons that aided Enki in his earthly endeavors. Although he could call upon both destructive and caring existences, Enki favored humanity and social justice. He was known for his intelligence, wisdom, and gift for divine arts and crafts. Enki’s knowledge of rituals included exorcism as well as healing prayers and chants.

An important figure in mythological history, Enki remains one of the greatest Sumerian legends and one of the most complex Sumerian gods. As such, one can spend a significant amount of time delving into the history and mystery of Enki. Continue to explore this fascinating mythical being on your own, and enjoy the journey.

Message Sujet: GYNOCENTRISM & MATRIARCHAL SOCIETIES THROUGHOUT THE AGES   Ven 26 Jan - 21:08

GYNOCENTRISM & MATRIARCHAL SOCIETIES THROUGHOUT THE AGES

Much of the modern world is, without a doubt, governed by men. While gender equality has improved in many parts of the world, there is still much progress to be made in this realm.

Considering that patriarchy is so normalized today, it may be a bit tough to wrap our heads around the idea that perhaps, at one point in time, women ruled the Earth. It might even seem like a far-fetched concept that’s perpetuated by feminists or idealists.

Whether or not a matriarchy (also known as “gynocentrism”, which literally translates to “female centered”) is a fantasy or reality is still up for debate. However, there is much to explore about this fascinating subject.

THE GYNOCRATIC AGE

In 1972, Gloria Steinem, a popular feminist author, publicized the concept of the matriarchy, which gained notoriety in the years that followed. While the validity of this theory is still questioned today, it has sparked discussion about the possibility and viability of gynocratic societies.

During a time period known as the Gynocratic Age, women were allegedly worshippedand praised for their ability to give birth. Childbirth was a great mystery at the time, and men, not realizing that they actually played a role in it, held the belief that women “bore fruit like trees, when they were ripe.”

The Gynocratic Age allegedly lasted from around 2 million years ago to 3000 BCE. At that point, it is said that a great transformation occurred, perhaps due to a cataclysm or a groundbreaking discovery, and sparked patriarchy.

THE FALL OF MATRIARCHAL SOCIETIES

As mentioned above, women were praised and worshipped for their ability to give birth. However, it is said that once men discovered their role in women’s ability to conceive children, they began to covet their power. This was the catalyst for the Gynocratic Age’s demise.

EVIDENCE

Archaeologists and other researchers have uncovered much evidence that supports the theory that gynocratic societies once existed:

An 8,000-year-old sculpture discovered in the fall of 2016 depicts some sort of goddess. Some speculate the figurine depicts a fertility goddess, while others believe her plump figure represents a woman of social prominence. Literature such as the Bible (the Virgin Mary) and Homer’s The Odyssey highlight the importance of women in society. The Book of Enoch, a Biblical text that is omitted from the standard Christian Bible, also features more stories of women than other Biblical texts. Scholar Lotte Motz observed that women appear just as frequently as men in ancient artwork.

Skeptics point out that just because women are depicted as goddesses in artwork and literature doesn’t necessarily mean they were equal or more powerful than men. With no written historical records, we can’t be 100-percent sure as to the authenticity of a truly gynocratic society.

OTHER GYNOCENTRISM THEORIES

Although Steinem is credited with bringing the theory of the matriarchy to prominence, she was not the first person to position such an argument.

Gynocentrism has been discussed throughout the ages. Female writers Lucrezia Marinella and Modesta Pozzo are credited with exploring gynocentric concepts in their work, namely “sexual feudalism,” which can be traced back to the Middle Ages.

Johann Jakob Bachofen, a Swiss anthropologist, also explored matriarchal societies throughout his work in the 19th century. He often cites the Greek goddesses Aphrodite and Demeter, who held significant power in ancient Greece, as evidence of women’s prominent role in that culture.

Robert Graves, an English poet and writer, was also fascinated with matriarchy in Greek culture. He attributes societal pressure to the eventual downfall of gynocentrism.

MODERN MATRIARCHAL SOCIETIES

Several matriarchal societies exist today all over the world.

- The Mosuo tribe of China is referred to as the “Kingdom of Women” throughout the country. Unlike most parts of China and the world, the Mosuo women are in charge of everything from finances to land and home ownership.

- Indonesia’s Minangkabau also places women at the forefront of society. When a man marries a woman, he is the one to move into her family’s home, and women pass inheritances such as land and homes onto their daughters like fathers do with sons in much of the world.

- Similar, the women of Costa Rica’s Bribri tribe are the ones who can inherit land. They also enjoy the right to prepare cacao, which is used in various sacred rituals.

- The United Kingdom’s monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, has ruled the nation since 1952.

Are these and other modern matriarchal societies representative of a more women-centric past, or are they an indication that matriarchy is on the rise once more?

Society has experienced some pretty dramatic changes throughout history. Only time will tell if matriarchy becomes the norm once more.

Message Sujet: WHAT IS THE TOWER OF BABEL?   Ven 26 Jan - 21:20

WHAT IS THE TOWER OF BABEL?

According to the famed parable in Genesis, the Tower of Babel was a structure designed to be tall enough to reach the heavens. This was much to God’s dismay, so as a consequence, he thwarted their plans by confusing their language and scattering the people around the world.

While there are similar stories from other cultures, the Genesis tale is perhaps the most well-known version. Is it merely a Bible parable, or is there some truth behind the story of the famed tower?

LOCATION OF THE TOWER OF BABEL

According to this particular story, the tower was built in a place called Shinar. While no one can be sure of its exact location, it’s generally believed Shinar was Babylonia, somewhere in Mesopotamia.

EVIDENCE OF THE TOWER OF BABEL

Aside from depictions in the Bible and similar stories, there had never been any evidence for the Tower of Babel’s existence until the discovery of a clay tablet in Iraq.

The tablet dates back to around 600 BCE and depicts the seven tiers of a ziggurat, along with a portrait of King Nebuchadnezzar II. The text is the most notable aspect of the tablet, which reads:

“NEBUCHADNEZZAR, KING OF BABYLON AM I – IN ORDER TO COMPLETE E-TEMEN-ANKI AND E-UR-ME-IMIN-ANKI I MOBILIZED ALL COUNTRIES EVERYWHERE, EACH AND EVERY RULER WHO HAD BEEN RAISED TO PROMINENCE OVER ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD – LOVED BY MARDUK, FROM THE UPPER SEA TO THE LOWER SEA, THE DISTANT NATIONS, THE TEEMING PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, KINGS OF REMOTE MOUNTAINS AND FAR-FLUNG ISLANDS – THE BASE I FILLED IN TO MAKE A HIGH TERRACE. I BUILT THEIR STRUCTURES WITH BITUMEN AND BAKED BRICK THROUGHOUT. I COMPLETED IT RAISING ITS TOP TO THE HEAVEN, MAKING IT GLEAM BRIGHT AS THE SUN”

The text explicitly states that Nebuchadnezzar spearheaded the initiative to build the tower, assembling people from around the world to construct it. The tower is referred to as “E-Temen-Anki” (often stylized as “Etemenanki”).

ETEMENANKI

Etemenanki is an ancient tower local inhabitants have long suspected to be the remains of the Tower of Babel, but there had been no evidence to support this theory until the discovery of the aforementioned clay tablet. The site was rediscovered in the 19th century by the local population and excavated in 1913 by Robert Koldewey.

Today, only some of the remains of Etemenanki are visible as much of the site is overgrown. However, it is believed to have been originally about 91 meters tall.

TOWER OF BABEL: FACT OR FICTION?

One can argue the story of the Tower of Babel isn’t entirely incredulous. People around the world built towering structures to honor their respective gods for centuries. The pyramids of Egypt, Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza, and similar structures throughout the world are all notable examples, along with the slew of towering temples scattered worldwide.

With this in mind, the idea of people collaborating to build a tower with the goal of reaching the heavens doesn’t seem that far fetched. Combine this with the evidence of Etemenanki, and there is quite a strong case for the existence of the Tower of Babel; however there always room for exploration.
